The Dubuque County Treasurer's office, located in the courthouse, is open for walk in customers.

Appointments are still available for those customers who want to avoid waiting in line, you can make an appointment by clicking here.  You must arrive prior to 4:00pm for a title transfer.

The Dubuque County Treasurer's office has a satellite office located in Dyersville, Iowa.  This office operates by appointment only, Tuesday through Thursday.  If you would like to schedule an appointment, please click here.


 

 

Motor Vehicle Information  
  • Motor vehicle registration is due annually.  Your registration month can be changed once through the life of ownership (i.e. vehicles cannot be renewed six months at a time).
  • Courtesy registration renewal notices go out the month before registration is due. 
  • There is a three-month window to renew; payments can be made the month before, the month of or the month after your registration is due without being penalized if driving in Iowa.
  • The following vehicles NOT allowed to renew online include:
    • IRP (prorate),
    • Firefighter vehicles due to the annual certification,  
    • Personalized plates that have been expired for more than 30 days, 
    • Customers with outstanding debts.

RENEW your vehicle tags online www.iowatreasurers.org with an e-Check for .25 cents (less than a postage stamp) or a debit/credit card for 2.25% of the total due.

If renewing online, you must have your PIN. Your PIN is located on your renewal notice. If you do not have this renewal notice, please call or email our office. NOTE: This pin is specific to you and should not change, therefore the same PIN can be used annually.

  • Mail (if at the end of the month, mail must be postmarked to not incur penalties)

Property Tax Information
Each year the Iowa Department of Management certifies property tax levies, from the taxing bodies, to the County Auditor. These levies are applied to the taxable property values assessed by the Assessor to establish the annual tax amount to be collected by the Treasurer.
 
The Treasurer prepares and mails a tax statement to owners of real estate, mobile homes, special assessments, buildings on leased land, equipment assessed as real estate, utilities and grain handlers.
  • The first half payment is due by September 30th
  • The second half payment is due by March 31st of the following year
The County Treasurer's Office collects property taxes for all taxing bodies. All taxes collected are apportioned and distributed each month to the taxing bodies.
 
 
Disabled/Elderly Credit
  • Claims for Iowa Disabled and Senior Citizens Property Tax and Mobile Home Tax Credits are filed with the Treasurer's Office by June 1 of each year.

 TAX SALE

 The Dubuque County tax sale happens the 3rd Monday of June annually, per Iowa Code Chapter 446.  There are specific notice requirements and procedures that must be followed.  

Dubuque County holds an online tax sale, all registrations and bidding takes place online.
