Payment Options:Property taxes and vehicle renewals may be paid in the following ways: 1) Pay property taxes online here, and pay vehicle registrations online here (processing fees apply) 2) Mail payments to Tama County Treasurer, PO Box 336, Toledo, IA 52342 3) Drop box located to left of the front door of the County Admin Building located at 104 W State St, Toledo 4) Pay in the office via cash (U.S. Currency Only), checks, money orders or cashier's checks that possess an American Bank Association (ABA) routing number, Discover, MasterCard, Visa and debit cards. Processing fees will apply to credit and debit cards. A $20.00 returned check fee will be assessed on returned payments. Property Taxes:Your taxes may be paid on the internet unless they are flagged "Tax Sale". Contact our office for Tax Sale information. Property taxes payable in September 2024 and March 2025 are based on the January 1, 2024 assessment, which is called the 2023 tax year. This assessment covers July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024 taxes. Note: You may now access the Assessor Property Information on each parcel from step 3 of the property tax application. Click here to find your assessed value. Scheduled and recurring tax payments: You may schedule a one-time or recurring monthly payment through this website. Payments can be scheduled using either an e-check or a credit card. Click here for additional information.
Motor Vehicle:You are eligible to renew your tags online when you have received a renewal notice through the US Postal Service. The notice contains a PIN number for your use. Contact our office if you cannot locate your PIN. A Bill of Sale, the vehicle title, and a title application are needed for title transfers.
Title Transfers - Bill of Sale As of January 1, 2022, all County Treasurer offices require customers to provide a bill of sale when transferring titles. This requirement is to comply with the Department of Revenue, Chapter 34 of the Iowa Administrative Code. The Bill of Sale should include:
The bill of sale will not be required to be notarized unless there are errors or alterations on the paperwork presented or upon examination there are questions on the legality of the application. This Bill of Sale may be used. The Treasurer's Office will accept any Bill of Sale as long as it has all the pertinent information.
Driver's License:Driver's license and ID services are by appointment only. Appointments can be made by calling our office during business hours at 641-484-3141 (opt.1). Appointments for behind-the-wheel drive tests can only be scheduled over the phone or in-person. Please call our office at 641-484-3141 (opt.1) for questions about drive tests. Computer testing for driving permits, general knowledge tests or CDL tests are first come, first serve and do not require an appointment. Hours for computer testing are Monday through Friday from 8:00 to 3:30. You might be eligible to renew your driver's license online at https://iowadot.gov/mvd/driverslicense/renew. You may renew your Driver's License up to 60 days after your birthday. If you are driving out of state, not all states will honor the 60 day grace period after your license expires.
REAL ID ACT (Gold Star) Real ID is a federal act that established minimum standards for state issued driver’s license and identification cards. It focuses on anti-terrorism, fraud protection, and security by requiring states to meet the standards. Beginning May 7, 2025 when you enter a federal building or fly commercially you’ll need a state issued REAL ID license/identification card or another acceptable identity document. Otherwise, you’ll be subject to additional screening and potential delay.
