**Please Note** Beginning September 2023, customers wo do not reside in Benton County will be assessed a $10 convenience fee for driver's license services unless they pay property taxes in Benton County.  This will be verfied by looking up the property tax payment if proof is not provided.  Collection of the convenience fee is pursant to Iowa Code 321M.9.  

The Benton County Treasurer's Office will continue to require appointments for all driver's license, identification card services and all testing. , but will no longer require appointments for motor vehicle or property tax services.  Appointments for driver's license services can be scheduled  at www.bentoncountyia.gov or by calling 319-472-2450.  NO TESTING CAN BE SCHEDULED ON LINE!  In order to continue to provide a safe enviroment, it is crucial that we limit the number of customers in the courthouse.  To do this, you are strongly encourage to renew your vehicles and pay property taxes through the mail, online, over the phone or through our drop box.  If you would like a receipt for property taxes, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope with your payment.  Please free to call our office at 319-472-2450 if you have questions.

2024 Tax Sale Information- The 2024 Benton County Tax Sale will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, June 17, 2024.  The sale will be conducted at the Benton County Courthouse and bidders shall place their bids online.  Bidders need not be present at the courthouse.  Please click the following link for additional information:

Bill of Sale Required for Transferring Vehicle Titles Beginning January 1, 2020

Effective January 1, 2020, the Benton County Treasurer's Office will require customers to provide a bill of sale when transfering titles to motor vehicles between private parties.  A bill of sale or purchase agreement is already required from a dealership.

The Iowa State County Treasurer's Association (ISCTA) inconjuction with the Iowa Department of Revenue (IDR) aim to substaniate vehicle purchase prices, which have a direct impact on the fees that are remitted to the State's Road Use Tax Fund.

Many counties already require a bill of sale between private parties and are allowed to do so pursuant to section 321.13 of the Iowa Code.  Benton County will join other counties and require a bill of sale effective January 1, 2020.  The Bill of Sale should include the seller's name, make, year, VIN of the vehicle along with the buyer's name, date of sale, purchase price and seller's signature.
